Many of us, especially women, lack adequate strength in the upper body. Muscles like the shoulder stabilizers, deep neck flexors, and mid-back support system are quietly crying out to be used. In the absence of strength, the upper traps often step in to compensate — tensing up in a protective mechanism.

Add in stress, overwhelm, or being stuck in “go mode” all day, and things tighten further. Our bodies curl inward. Breathing becomes shallow. Shoulders creep up toward our ears. This is your nervous system trying to keep you “safe.”

Over time, these patterns create chronic holding in the upper body. It’s not that your muscles are too short — it’s that they’re gripping to stabilize when strength and nervous system support are missing.

What Actually Works (Hint: It’s Not More Stretching)
